Sorry. Potentially ‘self-indulgent / inflated sense of own importance’ post to follow…
I’ve been plugging away at the U.K. fanzine archive for five or six years now; tracking down issues, scanning, cleaning up individual pages, and presenting the material in the best condition I possibly can. I love doing it, but depending on the condition of the original zines, the clean up process can be quite time consuming.
Health has been a bit of an issue for myself and the family this year, and there’s nothing quite like that sort of worry to bring thoughts of your own mortality to the fore. Lately I’ve been musing that if I want to achieve what I want to with this archive, I’d really best get a bit of a move on.
There are still so many zines to track down, and I already have hundreds scanned, that I’d much rather people were able to actually read, rather than have them sitting on numerous hard drives awaiting their turn in Photoshop.
With that in mind… from now on I intend to put up the zines in a condition much closer to the original scans. This doesn’t mean that I’m just going to throw them up any-old-how, just that I’m going to be nowhere near as obsessive as I have been so far in getting them looking pristine. Once everything I have is up on the site (hopefully by the end of 2020), I may well revisit issues and replace them with more heavily restored versions. For now though, I really feel that I should crack-on.
Hope that people will understand.
